This week, we are attending the Fifth Copernicus Climate Change Service General Assembly that brings together contractors and users to be informed and discuss service evolution. The event is spread across three days (13 - 15 September at The Hague) and consists of plenary sessions, poster sessions and networking opportunities, with speakers and panelists from leading international research institutes, government services and the private sector.
We are a contractor of the Copernicus Climate Change Service through two projects:
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is part of the European Union's Copernicus Programme, aimed at providing reliable and up-to-date information related to climate and environmental changes globally. It supports society by providing authoritative information about the past, present, and future states of the climate in Europe and the rest of the world.
Here are some of the key features and offerings of the Copernicus Climate Change Service:
1. **Climate Data Store**: A comprehensive source for climate data, including observations, historical data, seasonal forecasts, and projections up to the year 2100. It's designed to serve a wide range of users, from policy makers and businesses to scientists and other climate service providers.
2. **Climate Indicators**: C3S provides a range of climate indicators that are crucial for monitoring climate variability and changes, assessing impacts in sectors such as agriculture, health, and energy, and supporting adaptation and mitigation policies.
3. **Sectoral Information System**: This system provides tailored climate data and information for specific societal sectors, helping users to adapt to climate variability and change.
4. **Climate Bulletins and Reports**: Regularly published assessments of the state of the climate, including monthly climate bulletins and annual European state of the climate reports.
5. **User Support and Training**: C3S offers user support and training opportunities to help users access and use the data and information products available.
By providing accessible and quality-assured data, C3S supports informed decision-making for climate adaptation and mitigation, helping to safeguard the environment, human lives, and economies against climate variability and change. It's a critical tool for researchers, policymakers, businesses, and individuals who need accurate and timely climate information.
