Launch of the S2S4E Decision Support Tool

Save the date! The H2020-funded project S2S4E will present its new Decision Support Tool (DST) for the renewable energy sector on 20 June at 2 pm at Norway House in Brussels. The DST has been carefully co-designed with leading industrial stakeholders to assist in decision-making and become a game-changer for the electricity market.

The DST's primary aim is to support the strategic planning capabilities of renewable energy producers, electricity network managers, and policymakers for sub-seasonal to seasonal timescales. This in a context of growing significance of renewable energy, particularly wind power, in achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and addressing environmental and energy-security issues. Renewable sources are key actors in the energy transition. However, complex climate information can sometimes be difficult to integrate into decision-making schemes. The DST enhance the usability of climate information and can thus make the European energy sector more resilient to climate variability and contribute to more efficient renewable energy operations. This has crucial relevance for energy stakeholders and policymakers.

The S2S4E (Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Prediction for Energy) is a Horizon 2020 project designed to improve energy security and increase the use of renewable energy by providing more accurate and reliable sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) climate forecast. It aims to develop a decision support tool (DST) to better manage the renewable energy resources by integrating S2S climate predictions into the energy sector, addressing challenges in wind, solar, and hydropower production as well as energy demand due to varying climate conditions. This project involves collaboration among research centers, energy producers, industrial partners, and SMEs, conducting case studies and developing methodologies for integrating climate services into the energy sector. Funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, S2S4E seeks to bridge the gap between climate science and the energy industry by providing actionable climate information tailored to energy needs.
