We are presenting tomorrow our services at the Climate services (CS) for a climate-resilient Europe workshop.

CS involve the generation, provision, and use of climate information to help decision-makers in various sectors plan for and adapt to climate variability and change. These services often integrate scientific knowledge with user needs to support informed decision-making.

In the context of the European Green Deal, the new EU Adaptation strategy and the Horizon Europe Adaptation Mission, this workshop will:

  • Showcase the added-value and potential of CS to mainstream adaptation across several sectors and different levels of decision-making.
  • Discuss barriers to full deployment of CS, including institutional and legal issues, market barriers and capacity
  • Share lessons learnt and best practices, in view to overcome existing
  • Explore means of mobilizing resources for creating impacts at the scale needed to make Europe resilient to climate

The workshop builds on the results of a portfolio of Horizon 2020 projects, which contribute to the implementation of the European Research and Innovation Roadmap on Climate Services.

The European Green Deal, a flagship initiative of the European Commission, represents a comprehensive strategy aimed at propelling the European Union toward climate neutrality by 2050. This ambitious roadmap encompasses various policy domains, including energy, transport, biodiversity, and circular economy, with the overarching goal of transforming the EU economy while ensuring a fair and inclusive transition.

In tandem with the Green Deal, the new EU Adaptation Strategy addresses the imperative of enhancing the EU's resilience to the impacts of climate change. This involves mainstreaming adaptation into policies, bolstering critical infrastructure resilience, advocating nature-based solutions, and fostering knowledge-sharing and capacity building.

Within the Horizon Europe research and innovation program, the Adaptation Mission takes center stage. As part of the broader Horizon Europe framework, missions are targeted initiatives designed to tackle societal challenges. The Adaptation Mission focuses on accelerating the development and dissemination of innovative solutions for climate adaptation and resilience, aiming to facilitate transformative actions that enhance societal preparedness in the face of climate change. Together, these initiatives underscore the EU's commitment to sustainability, innovation, and proactive responses to the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change. It is advisable to consult the latest information on official EU websites for updates and developments in these initiatives.
